July Blog Assignment

120 years ago, Frederick Douglass was the most famous black man in America--perhaps even in the world. Long before radio, TV, and the internet, Douglass was well known for the dramatic events of his own life as well as his skills as a writer and activist. Even if you have not yet read his autobiography, you can imagine his unexpected fame. Who among our current, living stars might your great grandchildren still be reading about 100 years from today? Take your pick from politics, sports, business, or any other field, and tell us who will stand the test of time and remain in the history books. Please write a few sentences justifying your selection.

Please read the comments prior to posting your own. You can choose the same person, but must provide a unique reason or explanation.

  1. 100 years from today, people will be learning and reading about so many famous stars of our current generation. Of those many people, I believe President Barack Obama to be one. He was the first African-American president of the United States to be elected. Therefore he will most likely be remembered for years and years to come. Just as our previous 43 United States presidents have been remembered.

  2. The use of technology was gained so much attention, and it is noticed more and more with every new phone or tablet that is released. I predict my grandchildren will be talking about Steve Jobs or someone similar to him and that has played such a huge role in the advancement of technology.

  4. I think television would become a big thing and my great grandchildren would be influenced by it(not in a good way). It will gain a lot of attention and it will change them a lot. Since now televisions has been changed in many ways and it has changed people in many ways. I can imagine what it will do to the future children. I think television will control people and how they are. It has anyways now. It makes people do things & change their selves. For example, I think shows would play a big role and movies. Kids would become less social and outgoing. They would always watch TV and shows that are not for their age. I think they will start to disrespect their parents more and watch whatever they want that is not for their age.

  5. Regardless of one's politics, I also agree that Barack Obama will be read and learned about in 100 years. In addition to his being the first official African-American president, his contributions to our country whether they be positive or negative, have made a lasting impact on our lives and for generations to come. Not to mention the significant events that have occurred during his presidencies will leave him in the spotlight for history lessons in the years to come.

  6. I agree with Dean, technology will keep growing and never die off. 100 years from now our grandchildren will look at our iPhones like how we looked at our grandparents first cell phone. Bill Gates is a great example, starting with his first model computer and now all the computers we use today were once based off his idea.

  7. In a 100 years from now my great grandchildren will be learning about our great thinkers of this generation. When you have people such as Bill Gates and Steve Jobs and people like Mark Zuckerberg and Tony Fadell as well as Bre Pettis, you come to realize how they pursed the American Dream. Their strives and willing to risk it all has made leaps in technology not only for this generation but for many to build off of. They represent not only what you should strive for but what people come to this country for. Prosperity and success and to never give of the pursuit of happiness.

  8. 100 years from today people will still be learning and reading about Barack Obama . Not just because he is the first African-American president, but because he followed his dreams and believed in his self. He showed everyone that you can do anything if you set your mind to it . Nothing is impossible .

  9. I believe 100 years from now people will still be talking about Leonardo da Vinci. We still do talk about him even though it has been about 495 years since his death. Before he died he did many things such as being a painter, sculptor, musician, mathematician, engineer, inventor, anatomist, geologist, cartographer, botanist, and writer. He painted the famous Mona Lisa, The Last Supper, and etc. Leonardo da Vinci is and still will be recognized for his great work/accomplishments.

  10. 100 years from now children in school will be learning about our first African America president. Years from now we will probably have many US born citizens of different ethnic backgrounds that will become president and Obama being the first African American will open the door for other races in the future . I also have to agree with Dean about the technology advancements being a part of history to be taught, Steve Jobs would definitely be talked about. Kids in the future will be so consumed with technology and us as parents and grandparents will never be able to keep up. Mark Zuckerberg might also be mentioned due to the millions of people who use facebook to this day, years from now tons of other social media will be made and used daily.

  14. 100 years from now i think people will be talking about Steve Jobs because if you think about it, he kind of started a whole chain reaction of more advanced technology. He created a more convenient technology which is apple and apple products are just everything built in one and now we have competitors like other smart phones. You can work from your phone, store documents, read books. I believe the saying "My phone is my life, will literally be said in 100 years. All because of Steve Jobs and his strive for smart technology.

  15. 100 years from now I believe everyone will still be talking about Mark Zuckerberg, before the invention of Facebook beside MySpace no one had a way of connecting as well with other people as we do now. It has completely changed we communicate with other people and handle our problem and this change will affect the world for many generations after us.

  16. 100 years from now the one person who i think is the most remember able would be Channing Tatum . Not because of his movie rolls as a stripper, undercover cop or a soccer player but because he set a goal for all men and boys to look like him and have his body. There are so man obese people in the world and maybe seeing him would make them do something like workout or work on their appearance. Although there is such a bad rep for skinny people to make fun of voluptuous women or thicker men i feel as if he could help persuade people to lose weight in the future with his looks and actions.

  20. 100 years from now people will know about this man LeBron James. One of the greatest NBA players in our time. He has won a few (2) championships and he still is not finished. He will be in the future NBA Hall of Fame, no thought about it. He is one of the most hated and loved players in the NBA. He is well respected and so explosive. He is going down in history as the greatest of all time (the g.o.a.t).

  22. 100 years from today people will remember the name Xavier Gibbs. I'll be a world renowned architect who designs eco-friendly building and homes for only those billion or so people all around the world in need. Families in African countries will have homes that they could only dream of and I would design a fresh water piping system that would replenish millions' thirst for decades. My work would only revolve around helping the needy and not building fancy hotels and skyscrapers that do nothing but make our towns and cities look nicer. I'll change the world one day and hopefully bring smiles to the faces of billions. That's what life's about. Making one's day, changing the world one step at a time...
